More Spells for Little Witches and Wizards: A Spellbook for Imaginative Play
More Spells for Little Witches and Wizards: A Spellbook for Imaginative Play by Vanessa and Victoria Starling is a very fun book to create dramatic play with your little ones. I would have LOVED this book when I was younger. The “spells” inside are full of interesting sounds for children to say aloud. I like how they incorporated movements and wands into the spells to get children moving instead of simply sitting and reading the spells. It also allows for more imaginative play. I can completely picture a child wanting to get dressed up and pretend to be a witch or wizard when they are reading the book. This will make reading much more fun for a child. There’s far more to this book than just “spells” though. There are recipes inside for potions which are delicious. This will give children an opportunity to be part of making snacks, which is another great skill for the little ones. I really enjoyed the dragon’s egg section. It was very fantastical. Children will want to go on nature hikes to look for dragon eggs. When they obviously don’t find one, the book tells them how to make their own eggs, so they still have a fun activity. They will love the craft. My favorite part was the sachet section. I love to use herbal remedies, and this section will teach children about the different herbal properties. The sachets are easy to make as well. By far, the most gorgeous part of this book is the illustrations. They are absolutely adorable and so inviting. The colors and designs are very appealing, even for adults. If you enjoy dramatic play and fantasy, this is a really creative and comprehensive book to give your child a variety of experiences and fun. The activities would also be great for parents who want to do activities with their children, particularly in the kitchen. I rate this book an easy 5 out of 5.
