The Complete Orthodox Ethiopian Bible in English
I was very excited to get The Complete Orthodox Ethiopian Bible in English. In the Bible, there is mention of a eunuch from Ethiopian being baptized by Philip. This was important as it marked the spread of Christianity into Africia. The Bible is supposed to have been put together by the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church beginning in the fourth to fifth century. It is supposed to be the most complete Bible, containing over eighty books that have been filtered out of the current Bible. The Bible was supposed to have been written in Ge’ez; an ancient Ethiopian language. However, you won’t know this from the book. Most Bibles start out with a lengthy description of how they translated the work from the original and when it was translated. This is necessary because we are filtering the original as there are often translation issues. There is no such note about who or how the Bible was translated. Another disappointment with this book was that there is no way to navigate easily between the books as there are no hyperlinks. Each chapter is written on a new page and there are hyperlinks to jump between the chapters, but not for the books, so finding what you are looking for is a hunt and peck process. Lastly, the book is supposed to have eighty-eight books whereas the original Ethiopian Bible is said to have eighty-one. There are supposed to be three thousand, four hundred, and twelve additional digital books. There is no mention as to what these books are. I attempted to download them multiple times and used multiple email addresses. I checked my spam folders as well as social and promotion folders. The texts never arrived, so I’m not sure what they are or anything about them since they weren’t part of the original Ethiopian Bible. While all that prevents me from giving this book a good review, I do appreciate having the additional books. Obviously, I’ll have to do additional research to know much about the text as there is no intro, and I’m not sure how it was translated. There are no study notes with the book, however, the language is easy to understand. It is a decent place to start studying these additional books, but I don’t feel that the product promised was delivered nor do I feel like the additional stories are necessarily worth the price. I was disappointed as I was hoping to purchase the hardback and do a study of it, but started with the digital version. I have to give this book a 2 out of 5 stars.
